Chocolate mint is a popular variety of mint. It smells like after eight mints and has a mild chocolate flavour making it a good decoration for chocolate cupcakes. The plant grows to about 30cm tall with similar size leaves to regular mint. I grow my mints in containers so that they don’t take over the garden. If planted out in the garden, it will spread itself forming ground cover, but it doesn’t seem as aggressive in its growth as regular mint. Like all mints, it prefers to grow in some shade rather than direct sunlight.
Like most herbs, the plant grows bushier and better if you keep harvesting it through the growing seasons. Don’t remove more than one third of the leaves at one time, but you can keep taking a few leaves as you need them.
